LED headlight for Chieftain or RM
« on: July 29, 2017, 11:12:37 pm »
I was riding with my Harley buddies and noticed their " day maker" headlights put my stock RM LED to shame.....far brighter.  I want to be seen like they are.  Has anyone found a really bright plug n play LED light for the fairing Indians?

Indian has a led headlight but obviously is expensive, kuryakyn has one too at a good price or you can replace your stock bulb with an H4 Led one as the cheapest option.

I have the stock Indian RM LED.  It's reflective technology.   I'm looking to be more noticeable in the road.  The projection type LED are brighter.   I was wondering if anyone found one that's super bright and easy to install

Ironhorse lights sells a knockoff of a JW Speaker light. There are lots of options available elsewhere too. The light is 7" so look for lights in this size. You might have to do some trimming of the plastic bucket behind the light, but that's really easy.

Do you know if it's brighter than the stock LED on a RM?

I have a Truck-lite 7" headlight and it is very good. Very bright for uncoming traffic to see you. I ride with the high beam on in the day time and you can see the light reflection on the road signs. My brother has one on his Harley and it is a very, very bright white light. I ride a 2015 Vintage and installation was plug and play. Also the price is reasonable.

I believe it is from what I have seen.  I have no direct comparison though.  I have had oncoming cars flash me and I had to adjust the light down some to keep this from happening.  It is a very bright and broad white light and it is a plug and play for our bikes.

call me dumb but is there a difference between being seen better and actually seeing better? led's appear brighter to look at but do they actually light up the night road better? not sure all of them are the same.

I had iron horse, Indian RM LED and was not happy until I found this replacement LED headlight.  https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/motorcycle-led-bulbs/7-round-h6024-sealed-beam-motorcycle-headlight-dot-approved-led-headlight-conversion/3149/. Absolutely the best!  IMHO. You will need to modify the plastic Seat so the headlight will seat correctly. Very easy cut with a dremel tool. 5 minutes work.

They're not all the same. I can only speak to my experience with the Clearwater LED running lights on all my bikes. They put out a lot of very white, bright light and light up the road at night time. There is a good reason that bikes and cars are going LED.

I tried the Indian LED on my 16 Chieftain. It sucked. Way too many distracting artifacts. I ended up with a Chiefcansee light I learned about through this forum. The light was fantastic. Don't know what happened to Chiefcansee. Seems to be gone.

I have a Headlight and driving lights from Iron Horse Lights and it is simply awesome.  I went to copy the URL and it doesn't appear the website is alive anymore however it was they same folks that run http://victoryhid.com/z/

You could see if you can get them from there but they do look very similar to the one above from superbrightleds.com

The project LED I got from there, combined with the driving lights, on a mountain pass in pitch black...  Simply nothing like it that I've seen.  Absolutely amazing lights and very happy!

    Good luck!
