Indian shop manual says .034 inch (0.9 mm) gap and 12.7 ft-lbs of torque.

    Turn one revolution out, one half rev back in.
    Turn two revolutions out, one rev back in.
    Turn three revolution out, 1.5 revolutions back in.
    Keep doubling and repeating until the plug is in your hand.

    Sounds like a hokey pokey dance step.
