Anyone seen an oil leak like this...
« on: November 24, 2017, 03:42:45 pm »
I was checking a front tire wheel bearing issue and took a quick look under the bike and saw this...

Has anybody experienced this yet?

Could it be coming from a bad seal on the oil fliter?
    Is the filter loose?

The oil seems to be concentrated to the left of the filter. This would be consistent with the direction the oil would flow when the bike is sitting on the kick stand.

Mine developed a little seep in that area, found it was the o-rings on the oil cooler lines at the case. Replaced the o-rings and problem solved. Wasn't even worth taking to the dealer for warranty.

It looks like the base of the filter is wet!

I have to agree with others as it looks to me like you have a seep from the oil filter. There is a trace wet spot coming directly from the filter if bike is on kickstand. As well as a wet stop on the filter. I'd check tightness but more importantly I'd clean everything up and start watching the area.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll be scrubbing the area down and keeping an eye on it to verify if it's the filter (tight by the way) or o-rings. Update to follow!

Perhaps you already have, but be sure to note it with your dealer in case it is something bigger. Just a thought.

Clean the area good, then dry it and apply Baby Powder to the area, the powder will stay on the area when you ride the bike and you'll be able to see the "wet spot" from the leak and find your problem real easy.

Old school but it always works. Corn starch dust works too.

Yep. That's all baby powder is with the addition of antibiotics for the kiddo's little bottom to combat diaper rash.

    12/4/17 Update..
Well...after cleaning and riding I ended up tracing the leak to the stator plug connection. It looks like it was "pulling out". I was able to push it back in so I'll see what this continues to do. More updates to follow...
