Sound output in decibels?

This appears to be a non-compressor style horn - correct?  What is the amperage draw of the motor pushing the air through the horn?
Title: Re: BuffaloBrand.Co Indian Air Horn System
Post by: Chief Randy on July 27, 2016, 10:37:47 pm
The BBC-AHS-15" is rated at 121db  and the BBC-AHS-8" is rated at about 124db.

Air pressure is provide by a 12V (20 amp draw) direct drive compressor mounted behind the horn cover, no tank required.

Great questions! Thanks for asking!

It seemed to me that the 15" horn had the best sound quality and loudness (like a train). I prefer the look of the 8" one however... Decisions...

Both look great but Personally prefer look and sound of the 15 inch horn. Two thumbs up.

Sorry for not responding or keeping you all up to date... as some of you may have heard, we were involved in the Louisiana flood back in August.

90% of our town was flooded, 60,000 homes and businesses.  We've been working on rebuilding and since contractors have been stretch thin, we've been doing a lot of the work ourselves.

Production of the horns has been delayed because of that, but we've begun moving forward. We should begin production in the next 30-45 days.

We do appreciate your patience and we apologize for not being able to deliver sooner, hopefully we can make it up to you with a quality Air Horn System for your Indian motorcycle, second to none!

All the best!!!

Go to BuffaloBrand.Co and pick on "The List" tab at the top of the home page and let us know which horn you'd like. You'll be added to the list.
We are initially gearing up for production of 2014 and up Indians, but will design for earlier models afterward. Thanks!
All the best!

Sorry for not responding sooner... as many of you are aware we were impacted by the Louisiana flood in August of 2016 which set us back for 8 or so months. We lost our 2015 Indian Chief Vintage and has since purchased a new one.  90% of the homes in our town were flooded and to find a contractor was difficult, so we opted to do the work ourselves.

Our business during that time was put on the back burner, we're sorry for the delay and hope you understand. We're in production start-up mode now and will be contacting those that are on the "List" first, so that we can complete the ordering process. The "Shop" page and "Out of Stock" message will remain until all on the "List" are contacted and orders are filled.
If you're on the "List" you should be hearing from us via email soon, we will be starting at the top of the list around the 4th of July.

Thanks so much for your patience and understanding, it is appreciated.
Randy

Have a question for all.  In this thread, it states that the horns are $269.99, on the website it states $279.99.  I received an invoice from BuffaloBrand.Co for $299.99.  No where does it say anything for taxes or shipping.  Which price is correct?

I've been of the understanding that any aftermarket horn required some kind of relay to be safe. Is that part of the install and the two wires that go to the battery are coming from a relay?
Title: Re: BuffaloBrand.Co Indian Air Horn System
Post by: Chief Randy on July 15, 2017, 08:21:12 am
Great question!
Yes, the Air Horn System wiring includes a relay and fuse holder and is completely wired. The installer just needs to run the harness wiring from the battery to the horn location and then plug in the power to the Air Horn System and the existing horn switch two-wire connector to the Air Horn System. No cutting or splicing, plug and play! :)

Is there a sound clip of that horn anywhere? It doesn't say it is as loud as a Nautilus air horn so was wondering just what it sounded like. Higher or lower pitch of the Nautilus?

I'm not sure I can even used it on a Roadmaster. Might be too much reflected sound from the lowers.
Title: Re: BuffaloBrand.Co Indian Air Horn System
Post by: Chief Randy on July 16, 2017, 11:35:56 am
There are videos of the 8" and 15" on BuffaloBrand.Co website with sound of each horn. The 15" will not fit on a RoadMaster due to interference with the lowers.
The 8" fits nicely! Hope that helps!

G'day Randy !

Biggus ( Rick ) here - in Oz .....

REALLY  interested in one of your Horn systems for my '14 Vintage Chief  !!!

Could you please answer a couple of Q's for me ....

1)  Do you have an agent ( to buy from ) down here in Australia ?
( if not - can you please give me some contact details so I can chase these up )
( AND ..... if not - are you LOOKING FOR  "an agent here in Australia"  ?!?!? )

2)  Does your horn require an special wiring additions because of the Can-Bus wiring that
          the Indians have ?!?
( or does it just simply "plug in to the existing wiring / connector" ??? )

3)  I believe ( saw / read somewhere )  That the shorter 8" horn is actually LOUDER than
the longer option .... is this true ?
3a)  What DIFFERENCES are there between the two horn lengths ? ...... / WHY are
               there two length OPTIONS ???

4)  The LONGER horn kinda looks like our right foot MIGHT hit it .......  has this been the
         case at all ?!?

5)  COST ?  .... and shipping options ( and costs ) TO Australia ?

Many Thanks !

Big

Biggus,

1. No agent/dealers in Australia at this time. We have not yet set up dealers, but may sometime soon, we'll keep you posted.

2. No special wiring. Wiring harness to the battery and plug into the existing horn connector. Our system is Can-Bus compatible and we have had no issues.

3. The db rating of the 8" and 15" horns are different, and the 8" is rated as being a little louder, but both are sufficiently loud. The 8" has a higher pitch, the 15" a lower, deeper pitch.
3a. The 15" will not fit Indian models equipped with the hard lower fairing, so we offer the 8" for those owners.

4. We've not heard of any issues with the 15" Air Horn System and interference or clearances with operator's right foot.  Additionally, you are able to use the leather lower/wind deflector that attaches to the engine guard that is sold by Indian without clearance issues.

5. The 8" Air Horn System is $269.99 and the 15" Air Horn System is $279.99
Typical cost to ship to Australia has been $64.70 + $5.25 (Insurance) = $69.95USD

Hope this helps and we've answered all of your questions, if you have anymore, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the inquiry and some great questions, all the best,
Randy and Kathy

We did a little decibel test, pleasantly surprised at the dB numbers.
(Set decibel meter to hold highest reading, test results may vary :))

Decibel meter test at the end of trumpet, 129.4dB!
Decibel meter test at 3 feet from end of trumpet, 127.6dB!

Well I see you've added another accessory since the Fredricksburg rally.  I've thought about one of those horns but my god I've got so much chrome on my Red Chieftain right now I'm afraid if I add any more I'll be accused of being a Gypsy.

After hearing how loud they are from those at the Rally, knew I needed one to help drive off the crazy Cagers out there.
